Docent-in-Training Program

The American Journey Experience Museum is seeking dedicated volunteers to become Docent Tour Guides, as ambassadors of the past lead others on a path through the chapters of our nation’s past that continue to inspire leaders who will shape our future. 

Docent tour guides are truly the lifeblood of any museum, for they do more than just show people around—they connect the past to the present, and the present to the future. When you walk through those doors, it’s not just about seeing artifacts and exhibits; it’s about understanding the principles and sacrifices that built this great nation. A docent doesn’t just point to a display—they bring history to life, explaining how the courage of our Founding Fathers, the struggles for liberty, and the pursuit of freedom still echo in our lives today. They inspire us to reflect on our shared American journey, reminding us that the story of this nation is one of hope, perseverance, and unity. Through their words and their passion, docents ensure that the lessons of yesterday will never be forgotten—and that we will continue to pass them on to future generations. In a very real way, docents are the guardians of our history, helping to keep alive the spirit of which birthed this great nation.

In the Docent-in-Training Program, you will learn to:

• Guide Visitors through History: Lead 90-minute tours that illuminate moments that define America—the triumphs, the struggles, and the principles that have sustained us.
• Share the Legacy of Freedom: When you step into the role of a Docent, you become an ambassador of the ideals that have made America the beacon of freedom and opportunity in the world.
• Grow your Public Speaking Skills: Hone your public speaking skills, as you learn to engage and captivate an audience, tell compelling stories, and speak with confidence and clarity.
• Learn and Grow: Gaining a deeper understanding of American history during the 3-month docent training.
